Today I invite you to take a tour of the castles of Brittany by boat.

You can sail the canals of Brittany from the beginning of April to the end of October.

Brittany is one of my favorite destinations. I love it for its landscapes and its stone houses. There are flowers everywhere, that's amazing.

If I asked any of my clients what would they highlight? of the river cruise through Brittany, everyone agrees with me about the flowers and landscapes.

Would you like to visit the castles of Brittany?

Waterways in Brittany

The Nantes to Brest Canal, the Vilaine River, the Canal de l'Ile-et-France and the Erdre River are the options to navigate if you rent a river boat in Brittany.

A total of 570 kilometers divided between several sets of navigable waterways that branch from north to south, in the form of canals and rivers with 329 locks.

The Canal from Nantes to Brest is the most chosen, although depending on the number of days of your trip, you can evaluate the options. This offers you 360 kilometers of navigation.

You can pick up your boat to depart in Messac, Redon or Glenac and embark on your river journey.

Come on?

Castles of Brittany

Josselin Castle

One of the most famous castles in Brittany on a cruise through this area is Josselin, since you can see its towers from the boat. The castle is on the banks of the River Oust and you can moor right there and spend the night.

Josselin is a medieval and very picturesque town where you can visit not only its stone streets, but also the Basilica Notre Dame du Roncier, where the famous miraculous statue is located. Do you know the legend? There you will discover it.

The neighborhood of Sainte Croix It is the one around the basilica and here you can see traditional half-timbered houses of the area. The narrow streets of Josselin, like many other towns in Brittany, will transport you for moments to medieval times.

Blain Castle or Chateau de la Groulais

Also very well known, the Castle of Groulais which is in Blain. You pass through here with the boat.

I visited it and I really liked it, I recommend it because it is also very close to where you moor in Blain.

Blain is very lively and attracts many visitors for its natural and historical heritage.

Castle of the Dukes of Brittany

In Nantes, 20 minutes from Sucé-sur-Erdre There is this great castle. It is an old medieval fortress and ducal palace which belongs to the cultural complex of the Loire castles.

Carheil Castle

It's in Redon, another pick up point for your river boat.

It is a city of 10,000 inhabitants and was one of the largest in Brittany in medieval times.

Redon has a water park which attracts many family visits.

21 kilometers away is Carheil Castle, it is usually open to the public only in September, during European Heritage Days.

And if you rent a boat in Brittany, visit La Gacilly

You have to see this town. It's a town like a jack-in-the-box - it's full of surprises that you don't expect.

I can't tell you about them, because the nice thing is that you discover them yourself, but I can tell you that the way to enter the town is a river that will leave you speechless.

It is also the town where Yves Rocher created the plant-based cosmetics brand that you surely know. He did it here because La Gacilly is his hometown.

In fact, during your visit you can stop by to see the House of the brand that they themselves define as “an emblematic place built to better understand the Yves Rocher world. “It is a museum dedicated to their history, vision and know-how.”

In this city the Photo exhibition which is done every summer. In addition, the photos are displayed on the facades of the houses. It's worth seeing!

Gastronomy in Brittany

a region in which gastronomy is part of the trip, as is the case with all of France.

From Brittany I remember the cookies, are similar to the Crepes, but salty.

They are very good. They are usually prepared in many bars and restaurants and there are countless recipes to make them. I had them stuffed with ham and cheese and I have very good memories.

Luis, from Kitchen and Wine, Here he tells you a little about his history and the recipe

Breton cider is very famous and of course, the seafood from the entire area, because the Atlantic means that a great product is born on these French coasts.
